My dog, a seven years old Japanese Akita Inu was diagnosed with stage Vb (the worst stage) lymphoma. She was misdiagnosed for two months by her primary vet and by the time we got to the oncologist’s office, I wasn’t even sure if Eggo would make it through that day. She was battling liver failure and severe anemia. The cancer was in her spleen, her liver and her lymph nodes were enormous. To make matters worse, her primary vet had put her on antibiotics for two months.
After much testing, Eggo was diagnosed with stage VB lymphoma. Her cancer had spread from her lymph nodes to her blood, spleen ,liver, maybe bones and she was going blind in both eyes. To make matters worse, her liver was failing. The oncologist told us there was a chance the chemo wouldn’t work because the vet had put Eggo on antibiotics for two months.

Her oncologist told us there was a chance that the chemotherapy wouldn’t work. We still proceeded with the chemotherapy.
That first week of chemo was very hard. Eggo had a high fever and she was throwing up water. The second week, her blood test came back horrible. Her anemia had reached a dangerously low 17%. We spoke to Eggo’s oncologist about her diet but they convinced us to keep her on the commercial diet. Two weeks into the chemo, we realized that something needed to change.
I reached out to Mike (at KetoPoweredk9) who put together a comprehensive ketogenic diet for Eggo. Eggo followed the ketogenic raw diet throughout her chemo. Within a month of starting the ketogenic diet, Eggo was in clinical remission. By the second month, her anemia and liver were completely normal. We finished chemo in August (2024) and Eggo has remained in clinical remission. This was something that her oncologists never expected her to achieve.
I want to thank Mike for his help with Eggo’s diet plan. Eggo’s currently happier and healthier than ever. I believe that cancer is a teacher and it completely reset our priorities in life. I want to encourage every pet owner to give keto a go for their pets. It really works.
