So we had a slight scare with Emie this weekend. Found a small bump that appeared on her incision scar that literally formed in a matter of hours. Of course first thing that came to mind is another MCT 😡, so… I saw the bump Sunday afternoon and called vet first thing Monday morning and got her in by 9 am. Luckily it was not MCT and just an infection from stubborn suture stitch we had issues with after her surgery. Funny little sorry was when we arrived vet tech weighed her and thought there was an issue with scale because she lost 10 lbs in the 3 months since they saw her last 😂 I laughed and told her that the scale was right and she’s been on a very strict routine. Vet was very eager to hear about the ketogenic diet and even took notes on the website to check it out. Glad to see he was open minded and didn’t just dismiss it. Well, I guess the point of my rambling is to always have a new bump checked out asap before it could potentially get out of hand. I’ve seen way to many dogs have things overlooked and get so bad before they’re addressed and getting the jump on something can be all the difference in the world. Especially when dealing with cancer.

There was a voluntary recall issues by Animal essentials this past august 2017 for their herbal multivitamin mix. Here is what the CEO of the company had to say about it in an email addressed to me when I inquired about why my new jar of vitamins looked different than my previous jar.
Pay special attention to the words “accelerated oxidation” this means the product was RANCID that I was using and giving my dog that had just undergone Cancer surgery. I was feeding my dog Rancid food/vitamins/supplements!
Had I not noticed the product appeared to be different in color from my last jar I would have never suspected and most likely gone on to use the entire jar on my dog without ever knowing I was feeding her RANCID product. And THIS is exactly why I now source every single item individually and use human grade that goes into my dogs diet. So how many other pet owners wound up using and feeding all of this Rancid multivitamin mix to their dogs?
“Dear Mike,
First, THANK YOU for your support! It is caring customers/animal lovers like you that make all the difference, and we appreciate your passionate response to this issue.
We discovered an “off” smell, discoloration and unusual clumping of our Herbal Multi-Vitamin #1705097 shortly after we released the first few cases into distribution— this after the product had passed all of the usual quality inspections. Initially the product looked great, but then changed in the jar. We quickly stopped sale of the product upon discovery of the problem, retaining over 90% of the entire run in our quarantine area. To date we have run analytics on every aspect of the formula, but have yet to reveal anything harmful. Our current theory is that high oil (flax/chia) and/or moisture has caused accelerated oxidation of the product, and its unpleasant smell and texture. Regardless, this particular lot of product is not consistent with the level of quality we require, so I issued a Market Withdrawal, asking that all product bearing lot #1705097 be returned to us for full credit. Our remaining inventories will be destroyed. It is important to know that this “market withdrawal” WAS NOT initiated as a “product recall”, meaning that Chewy’s is not legally required to handle it as such. That said, I have been in touch with Chewy’s and have been assured that the product has been taken out of their inventories and will not be sold. I believe they are only sitting on a few jars.
Again, I truly appreciate your loyalty and the time and attention you have invested in this matter. I am also a big fan of what you are doing with your Facebook Group. Thank you! Please don’t hesitate contacting me directly if you have any future concerns or questions.”
Sincerely,
Greg Tilford, CEO

Most of know I’m using keto for Emie as a preventative method to try and prevent her MCT from coming back. But to also see the incredible gains she has made in the performance aspect of running is absolutely incredible. I talked with Daniel O. From kps On Fri and he might of said it best. Being on a Ketogenic diet almost gives the body a “freakish” amount of energy. And this is nothing short of true. Emie is CRUSHING all of her previous limits with running. This morning we did 11.3 miles with an 9.4mph/avg and she sprinted back to the car, hopped in the backseat like nothing happened. Not winded, not panting etc. I cannot believe what this dog is capable of on keto. It’s amazing. And this was all after 17hrs of fasting. There’s no doubt she could of ran more but I made her stop! Mind blown
